No surprises in Australian one-day team

SYDNEY April 18. The Australian Cricket Board on Friday chose not to spring any surprises when it announced a 15-member squad under the captaincy of Ricky Ponting for the seven-match one-day series against the West Indies in the Caribbean.

All the players named were part of the World Cup winning team though Jason Gillespie, who missed out the tournament in South Africa due to injury, replaced his cover Nathan Bracken for the series staring on May 17.

``The group we have selected, with the inclusion of Jason Gillespie for Nathan Bracken, is basically that which won the World Cup last month,'' National Selection Panel chairman Trevor Hohns said.

Meanwhile Damien Martyn, who was ruled out of the Test leg of the Travelex Tour of the West Indies due to a fractured right index finger, will need to prove his fitness before the squad's scheduled departure on May 9.

The team:

Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist, Michael Bevan, Andrew Bichel, Jason Gillespie, Nathan Hauritz, Ian Harvey, Matthew Hayden, Brad Hogg, Brett Lee, Darren Lehmann, Jimmy Maher, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Andrew Symonds. — PTI
