SIT to probe spirit seizure

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM April 11. The City Police Commissioner, Rajan Singh, has constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the seizure of 18,000 litres of spirit from the premises of an artefacts manufacturing unit opposite to the KSRTC Central Workshop at Pappanamcode this week.

The special team will be headed by the Assistant Commissioner (Shankhumukhom), Manilal. Meanwhile, the Commissioner has posted out the Sub Inspector (Nemom), Suresh Babu, to the police control room. The police have also taken the sample of the seized spirit for chemical examination at the Government laboratory.

A hunt is on to arrest, Sudhi, from whose premises the largescale spirit seizure was made. The city police have also stepped up vigil against abkari related offences in the wake of the liquor tragedy that claimed seven lives in Kollam.

TV serial crew detained

The Pettah police today detained two persons who were found attired in police uniform on the side of the National Highway bypass at Eanjackal.

They were taken to the Pettah police station. An official said on verification it was found that the detained persons were actors shooting for an episode of a Malayalam serial.

However, the television crew had not taken prior permission of the police.

The serial crew was let off with a petty fine from the police station in the afternoon.

One killed in accident

A 50-year-old man, who was grievously injured after he was knocked down by a motorcycle in front of the Raj Bhavan on February 20, died while under treatment at the Medical College Hospital here today.

Police identified the deceased as Balakrishna Pillai of Padanayarkulangara, Karunagapally. The body has been kept at the Medical College Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

Hurt in lightning

A 25-year-old woman was injured and her house partially damaged in a lightning strike at Kallayam under Vattapara police station limits on Friday afternoon.

Police said the injured person, Valsala, has been admitted to the Medical College hospital. He condition was stated to be stable.
