The works will include approach roads, intake structure, staff quarters if required at the site. Depending on further studies, the Government may also take up pipeline works. The Irrigation Secetary, C. V. S. K. Sarma, said here this evening that the Central Water Commission had given an in-principle clearance to the project two years ago on June 8, 2001, based on a pre-feasibility report submitted by the State Government. The State, in fact, would not require any CWC approval for going ahead with aforesaid works and even for laying of pipelines. Talking to The Hindu after a review meeting on the project by the Minister for Major Irrigation, K. Srihari, the Secretary said they were working on the detailed project report being prepared by Water and Power Consultancy Services, Delhi, and it would be ready by June. As far as hydrology was concerned, he said, though the project required only 50 tmcft of Godavari waters, it was established before the CWC that about 120 tmcft was available at the site. This availability would be without any prejudice to the other projects such as Inchampalli and Polavaram which would be taken up at a later stage. The Secretary called the reports alleging that CWC had raised objections "absolute lies'' and said what the Central agency raised were "queries'' which were normal for any project, and it had also spoken of "concerns.'' All of them were sufficiently replied. The detailed project report would provide details regarding all aspects, environment, rehabilitation and resettlement, socio-economic problems, if any, power supply tie-up, etc.
