ID cards for Bhadrachalam's permanent residents soon

BHADRACHALAM April 11. The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, said here on Friday that permanent residents of the temple town would be issued identity cards very soon.

Addressing a news conference here, he said that the move was aimed at regulating the influx into the developing township falling in the scheduled area where in the provisions under Regulation 1/70 were in force.

He said that the concerted efforts made by the Government for the development of the temple town had begun giving results. Provision of better infrastructure and facilities were attracting people from all places. The interests of permanent residents of the township would be safeguarded by all means.

Commending the services rendered by temple officials, especially the Executive Officer, Muralidhar Reddy, he said that the income of the temple rose from Rs. 4.36 crores to Rs 5.53 crores. He said that the township committee would be brought under the purview of the temple administration by appointing the Executive Officer as its chairman.

He said the drinking water needs of the people in the town would be fully met once the water scheme taken up with a cost of Rs. 1.5 crores was completed. He wanted the officials to regularise the lease collection from the temple lands. He said that landscaping would be taken up in 14 acres of lands in the town as part of the beautification exercise. He stressed the need for developing a theme park in the place at a cost of Rs. 1 crores.

The Chief Minister said the issue of extension of rail line to Bhadrachalam would be taken up. The Union Minister of State for Railways, Bandaru Dattatreya, who joined him subsequently, said the proposal would be considered for allocation of funds in the budget. He said that the Government would consider the extension of the line by 12 km for the convenience of devotees and pilgrims bound for Bhadrachalam.

The Chief Minister said the Government had utilised Rs. 1,545 crores for the development of infrastructure during past seven years. It had spent Rs. 410 crores on welfare measures in the district. A sum of Rs. 20 crores was given to the district for drought relief.
