Exports of art metalware, woodware, handprinted textiles and services, embroidered and crochetted goods, shawls as artware, zari and zari goods, imitation jewellery and miscellaneous handicrafts have risen by a minimum of 15 per cent and a maximum of 25 per cent in dollar terms. According to an official release, the Handicrafts Exporters Association has urged that these exporters be completely exempt from value added tax. The association has also urged that income tax benefits on the lines of those being given to export oriented units and special economic zones be given to other exporters also especially the handicraft and textile sectors which are heavily employment oriented.
