MLA sans office

By Our Special Correspondent

Chennai April 7 . The Singanallur MLA, K.C.Karunakaran, is perhaps the only "honourable" legislator, sans an office of his own in Tamil Nadu. Even two years after he was elected he had not been given an office by the government, the CPI(M) member rued in the House today.

The reason: Contractors were not willing to take up construction of the building, though it had been tendered and retendered four or five times.

Why? The schedule of rates fixed by the Public Works department was too low and unattractive to the contractors.

The result: The computer system provided to the MLA by the Government was lying in his party office.

"I am ashamed to keep the government computer in my party office. But, what do I do? " he lamented, during the debate on grants for the PWD.
