Mr. Vellaiyan, Devaraj and Jagadeesan were arrested allegedly for causing damage to public property worth Rs. 300. According to the police, a group of trade association office-bearers indulged in violence by breaking glass panes and showcases of shops during the bandh against imposition of VAT. Granting bail, the judge said, ``it is a fit case for granting bail. They are ordered to be released on bail on their executing a personal bond for Rs. 5,000 each with two sureties for a like sum each to the satisfaction of the XIV Metropolitan Magistrate''. He also imposed a condition that the petitioners should deposit a sum of Rs. 1,000 each to the court, and report before the Secretariat police at 10 a.m. daily for a month.
