ACC to increase Wadi plant capacity

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE APRIL 7. The Associated Cement Companies (ACC) plans to increase capacity of the Wadi plant in Gulbarga district by 50 per cent for fly ash based composite cement. It proposes an additional investment to achieve this. The output of composite cement up to February this fiscal amounted to 20.06 lakh tonnes.

ACC responded to the Karnataka Government's offer to use fly ash from the Raichur Thermal Power Station. It now uses seven lakh tonnes of fly ash for blended cement. The new Wadi plant has a single rotary kiln with 6 metre diameter, one among three in the world of that size. ACC has its own limestone quarry closeby. The plant has been designed to be more eco-friendly. The reverse air bag house technology avoids plant shut-down for maintenance. In a fragmented cement market, ACC has the largest share of 12 per cent, according to Sr. Vice President, Arvind Pathak.

There was surplus production in the industry as a whole but with more governments launching major infrastructure projects, demand could increase, he added.
