Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram

According to the zoo director, Yelakki, the new born male LTM died four to five hours after being born early this morning. The last LTM was born in the city zoo 20 years ago. Zoo officials suspect that the newborn died after being taken away by the other female LTMs in the Macaque enclosure. The baby Macaque most probably died because it was unable to suckle, since it was carried away, zoo officials said. The mother primate was found in a very weak condition by animal keepers who nursed it back to health by giving fruits and water. The body of the dead LTM was being preserved for display in the Natural History Museum, Mr. Yelakki added.
