CRPF to celebrate Valour Day

NEW DELHI APRIL 6. The Central Reserve Police Force will be celebrating "Valour Day'' on April 9 to commemorate the battle of "Sardar Post'' on Gujarat border which had taken place on that day in 1965 and had witnessed two companies of CRPF repulsing a brigade level attack by Pakistan and gunning down 34 of its soldiers.

Stating that six valiant CRPF men had also sacrificed their lives at the call of duty in that battle, a release issued by CRPF said tributes will be paid to these brave jawans by the Union Minister of State for Home, Harin Pathak, at 4 p.m. during a ceremony that day.

The Minister will also honour the Ashok Chakra and Shaurya Chakra awardees of CRPF who were instrumental in repulsing the fidayeen attack on Indian Parliament on December 13, 2001. The Heads of all Central Police Organisation will attend this commemorative function.

The release further stated that a contingent of CRPF from Group Centre, gandhinagar will proceed to Sardar Post in Rann of Kutch and pay respects on Valour Day. Earlier in the morning, the officers and jawans will also pay tributes at the Martyrs Memorial at Group Centre, CRPF, Jharoda Kalan, here.
