Call for caste-free society

BANGALORE APRIL 6. The former Chief Justice of India, M.N. Venkatachalaiah, said on Sunday that caste and religion had divided the country, and stressed the need for a caste-free society.

Speaking after releasing Sadguru's Blessings, a monthly magazine being published by the Swayamprakasha Trust of the Sree Math at Harihara in Chikmagalur District, he said the age-old caste system based on one's profession would have been the right thing. Some solutions had to be evolved to bring together all communities.

He said maths and religious institutions should spread moral and spiritual values among the people. He lauded the efforts of the Sree Math in this regard. Pavagada Prakash Rao spoke. Sachidananda Saraswathi Swamiji of the math graced the occasion. The administrator of the math, P.N.Vishwanathan, the founder of the Visvesvaraya Cooperative Bank, K.N.Venkatanaryana, the editor of the magazine, Krishnamurthy, and the editor of Swayamprakasha, H.B.Subramanyam, were present.
