dated April 7, 1953: Tribute to Asaf Ali

A Gazette Extraordinary to honour the memory of the late Asaf Ali published over the signature of the Foreign Secretary, Mr. R.K. Nehru, said: "The Government of India mourn the loss of a distinguished and valued servant of the people and extend their deep sympathy to his family."

``Mr. Asaf Ali played an important part in the Freedom Struggle. Sacrificing his career at the Bar he underwent several terms of imprisonment for political activities. Later to the service of his country and home and abroad he brought wisdom, experience, zeal, learning, charm of manner and great breadth of outlook."
