Sir, In continuation of the announcement by the Railway Minister in Parliament, a special concession is extended to senior citizens of 60 years and above. The Centre has reduced the qualifying age from 65 to 60 years for this concession. However, the notification published by the Southern Railway (The Hindu, April 3) states that the concession is available "for tickets purchased on or after April 1, 2003". It is common knowledge and a widely prevalent practice that for the months of April and May, intending travellers purchase tickets in March through the advance reservation scheme. While those who availed themselves of the advance reservation facility and travelling on or after April 1, 2003 would be denied the concession, a few who might have purchased the tickets on or after April 1, 2003, but travelling on the same dates, would get the concession. This is anomalous and iniquitous. T. Ramachandran, Chennai
