Flutter over U.S. `currency'

TIRUMALA MARCH 21. A flutter was caused here when the Tirumala temple authorities found what they called a "one-million dollar" U.S. currency note while counting the offerings made by devotees in the `hundi'.

According to a letter pinned to the note, it is believed to have been deposited by an NRI from California, U.S., temple sources said.

The `hundi' also recorded a single offering of Rs. 41 lakhs made by another unknown devotee.

Talking to mediapersons, the TTD executive officer, Ajay Kallam, said the "validity" of the "so-called U.S. note was yet to be established.
