By Our Staff Reporter

KODAIKANAL MARCH 21. T ension prevailed at Kodaikanal town this evening following a dispute between Highways department officials and DMK men over a concrete dais constructed near the Moonjikkal junction to offer felicitations to the DMK president, M. Karunanidhi.

The Highways department declared the structure illegal and advised the members of the Kodiakanal unit, who erected the dais, to demolish it. But the supporters protested and had a wordy duel with officials. They told the officials that the structure would be removed after Mr. Karunanidhi left the place.

Heavy police personnel, including a striking force, were deployed.

The former Minister, I. Periasamy, and other leaders held negotiations with the officials.
