Jammu & Kashmir
By Shujaat Bukhari
After the State Government produced the challan against three officers, Maj. Dinesh Gupta, Maj. S.N. Gupta and Maj. S.C. Katoch, involved in the "disappearance" of a youth, Javed Ahmed Ahangar from Batmaloo, the CJM informed the DG, NSG, to court martial them, and if not, inform the court by April 5 so that criminal proceedings could be initiated against them. All the three officers are now posted in the Southern Command in Pune. Javed was taken into custody by the Army on August 18, 1990, after which he "disappeared". His mother, Parveen, who is also the chairperson of the Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP), filed a petition in the High Court, which ordered an inquiry into the case by the CJM. After hearing 12 witnesses, the CJM concluded that the three officers were responsible for the disappearance.
