Assembly condemns US attack

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD MARCH 21. Condemning the United States for declaring war against Iraq, the Assembly has appealed to the U.S. President, George W Bush, to stop the war and cooperate with the international community in establishing peace in the world.

Cutting across political lines, members expressed concern over the aggressive posture adopted by the U.S. in declaring a war on Iraq which could lead to loss of lives and properties of innocent citizens.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister for Home, T. Devender Goud, condemned the US for attacking Iraq, and said that the United States should instead resolve the issues with Iraq through the United Nations. He appealed to the Central Government to take steps to ensure the safety of Indians in Iraq.

Raising the issue, the Congress member, D. Srinivas, said that in spite of opposition from the international community, the U.S. declared a war on Iraq ignoring the directives of the UN Security Council.

The floor leader of the BJP, N Indrasena Reddy, the CPI (M) legislator, N Narasimhaiah, and the MIM MLA, Akbaruddin Owaisi, also condemned the US aggression.
