By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore March 5. The Housing Minister, C.R. Sageer Ahmed, assured members of the Legislative Assembly today that the Government would examine the suggestion to reduce the advance collected from slum dwellers under the Valmiki Ambedkar Awaz Scheme from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 1,000.Responding to a suggestion by the JD(U) floor leader, P.G.R. Sindhia, Mr. Ahmed said the Government would discuss with the Union Urban Development Minister the possibility of extending the scope of the scheme to Ashraya housing.

The Leader of the Opposition, Jagadish Shettar, who posed the main question to Mr. Ahmed, was informed that of 10,312 houses in the first phase under the Valmiki Ambedkar Awaz Scheme, 6,000 had been handed over. The rest were under construction and would be given to beneficiaries before the month-end.

Mr. Ahmed said the Centre had sanctioned 11,000 houses in the second phase, and 11,970 houses in the third phase. The Government had given a guarantee to HUDCO to provide 50 per share of the cost, and informed the Centre.

Therefore, there was no question of the programme being delayed.
