Manav, Aparup bow out

BANGALORE March 5. Manav Jaini and Aparup Saikia failed to find their touch when it mattered most and bowed out of the Eveready all-India amateur golf championship at the KGA course here today.

Jaini, a 19-year-old from Delhi, who had streaked past Bangalore's leading amateur David D'Souza yesterday, just could not raise his game to match fourth-seeded Jasjeet Singh losing 4 and 3, while Aparup, who was in his element yesterday, came a cropper against Saurabh Bahuguna.

Lakhan Singh provided the day's upset when he downed eighth-seeded Anitya Chand 4 and 3.

The foreign challenge was kept alive by Sri Lankans' M. Amarpathma and former champion B.G. Lalith Kumara as also Irishman Michael McGeady and Bangladesh's Md. Milon Ahammad. Only Md. Siddikur Rahaman of Bangladesh fell by the wayside losing to young Sandy Lehal in the 18th hole.

Sri Lanka's Amarpathma too had to fight hard against Rakesh Kumar before winning on the 21st hole, while Vikrant Chopra brushed aside his first day blues to score over Coimbatore lad G.A. Pandian 2 and 1.
