Security guard held on forgery charge

CHENNAI FEB. 19. A security personnel of a sugar factory on the city outskirts was arrested by the Central Crime Branch personnel today when he attempted to encash a cheque by forging the signature of the owner.

Police identified the arrested person as Mahalingam.

According to police, Mahalingam had stolen some cheque leaves from the factory.

He had gone to the nationalised bank a couple of days ago and attempted to encash a large amount.

When the bank staff on suspicion enquired with him, he gave unconvincing replies.

Meanwhile, the bank personnel verified with the sugar factory and it came to light that some cheque leaves were stolen. When Mahalingam came to the bank for the second time to encash some money he was caught and handed over to the CCB police.
