The Speaker, Rajendra Prasad Shukla, had to adjourn the House twice after the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party members insisted on a discussion on their notice for breach of privilege against Congress leaders, who had allegedly adopted a resolution at their legislature party meeting, condemning the Deputy Speaker. As the House assembled, Mahesh Tiwari (BJP) sought to know from the Speaker about the fate of the opposition's notice. However, the Speaker said he would not allow any other subject to be taken up during question hour. The opposition members were on their feet, raising slogans against the Jogi Government. Later, the Speaker adjourned the House for one hour. Even after the House re-assembled, Mr Tiwari again sought to raise the issue during zero hour but the ruling party members disrupted him, sparking noisy scenes . As the ruling and opposition members raised slogans and counter slogans, the Speaker asked the members to take up the business listed on the agenda but his pleas were drowned in the din. Later the Speaker adjourned the House till tomorrow. The Deputy Speaker, Banwarilal Agarwal, who was elected to the Assembly on a BJP ticket, was in the midst of a controversy after he allegedly made some remarks against Mr.Jogi and the judiciary on February five. At the meeting of the Congress legislature party, MLAs had expressed their anguish over the Deputy Speaker's remarks and had reportedly adopted a resolution, condemning Mr Agrawal. The BJP members termed it as a breach of privilege of the Deputy Speaker and had submitted a notice against the Chief Minister and others. They are now pressing for an immediate discussion on the issue. The Congress, however, countered the move by submitting a notice, seeking to move a no-confidence motion against the Deputy Speaker for this conduct, which the party felt, was not in accordance with the post being occupied by him. -- UNI
