Traffic regulations for Kalam visit

Pondicherry Feb. 19. Traffic regulations have been made in view of the visit of the President, A.P. J. Abdul Kalam, to Pondicherry on February 21.

The Senior Superintendent of Police, Anandh Mohan, said in a communication here today that vehicles, barring the two-wheelers, would not be allowed to ply on Cuddalore road from Venkata Subba Reddiar square to Kanniakoil-Bahoor junction from 8 a.m. to 12 noon tomorrow. Similarly no vehicle, except two wheelers, would be permitted from Mudaliarpet to Sonampalayam junction (Uppalam area) for four hours from 8 a.m. tomorrow.

On February 21, movement of all types of vehicles (except two-wheelers) would be banned from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Cuddalore route. A similar ban would be in force from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mudaliarpet to Sonampalayam junction in Uppalam area that day.

Mr. Anandh Mohan said the stretch of Subbiah Salai (south Boulevard) from the M.G. Road junction to the Park Guest House would be declared a totally vehicle free zone from 9.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on February 20 and 21. Similarly the stretch of Goubert Avenue (beach road) from Park Guest House to Rue Dupuy junction, the areas in and around Bharathi Park and the stretches of St Louis street, Francois Martin Street and Manakula Vinayakar koil street from Rangapillai street to Rue Dupuy are vehicle free zones for two days from February 20 from 9.30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

He said vehicles coming from Cuddalore to Pondicherry would be diverted at Kannia Koil towards Bahoor. The vehicles could reach the Pondicherry bus terminal through Bahoor, Seliamedu, Karikalampakkam, Villianoor and Indira Gandhi square.

Similarly vehicles proceeding to Cuddalore would be permitted to proceed from Indira Gandhi square through Villianoor and Bahoor, Seliamedu and Kanniakoil to Cuddalore.
