Rupee posts further gains

MUMBAI FEB. 19. The rupee ended higher against the U.S. currency today, extending a three-session rally on the back of sustained healthy trading and corporate inflows in generally quiet but cautious trading at the interbank foreign exchange market. Closing at 47.6950/7000 a dollar, the rupee gained by yet another 1-1/2 paise from Tuesday's finish of 47.7100/7150 after trading in a tight two paise range of 47.69 and 47.71 in muted business.

It opened on a firm note at 47.6925/7025. The rupee spurted by over 18 paise in the last three sessions, driven-up by robust trade inflows and receding of war fears. Despite a fresh rise in global crude oil prices due to geo-political uncertainties, the rupee continued to post gains on persistent heavy flow of dollars from exporters and non-resident Indian remittances, a dealer said. — PTI
