This Day That Age
An Air Ceylon Skymaster aircraft took off from Santa Cruz airport in Bombay at 2 p.m. on the 18th on a scheduled flight to London, but returned to the airport after 75 minutes. UPI reported that, shortly after departures the crew discovered that passports of five passengers in transit through Bombay to destinations further abroad had been inadvertently left behind at Bombay. The pilot had a peculiar problem, as he could not immediately return and land with the heavy load of fuel that the plane carried. He chose to jettison a large quantity of fuel over the Arabian Sea and then turn back to land at Bombay. After the crew recovered the passports left behind, and after the plane was refuelled again, the plane took off for its journey to London.
