Burglars strike at Adyar house

CHENNAI FEB. 18. Burglars broke into the house of a retired army official at Padmanabha Nagar Fourth Street in Adyar when the inmates were away and escaped with cash and jewels totally worth about Rs.1.5 lakhs.

According to police, the house owner Balagopal had gone out with his wife around 6 p.m. and returned a couple of hours later and noticed some intruders inside his house. He immediately screamed for help and alerted neighbours.

The culprits who heard the noise escaped with their booty.

In another incident, two shops on the first floor of a commercial complex at C Block in Thirumangalam near the post office were targetted by burglars. Totally cash totalling about Rs.1.5 lakhs was reported stolen.

A shop owner said that the culprits broke open the lock of Southern Finance company and took away cash after breaking open the locker. They then entered the neighbouring Mashan pharmacy in the same fashion and took away some cash. The culprits also made a vain attempt to break into Sri Devaraj computers.
