2 constables held for robbery

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI FEB. 18. Three persons including two police constables were arrested today on charges of seizing a motorcycle on the pretext of checking and later selling it.

Police identified the arrested persons as Chandrasekaran, Crime Head Constable attached to Seerani Arangam police station and Karunanidhi, crime constable attached to Kotturpuram police station. According to police, Chandrasekaran and Karunanidhi had intercepted the motorcycle of an engineering college student, Aravindan at Wallajah Road and Ellis Road junction on February 15. The police personnel claimed that the documents were not proper and demanded Rs.2000 to release the vehicle.

However, Aravindan said that he could offer only Rs.500. Following this, the two police personnel accompanied Aravindan to his house. Aravindan's parents refused to part with any money claiming that the documents were proper. The two police personnel allegedly seized the two-wheeler and sold it for Rs.1,650 to Sahabuddin of Pudupet. Following a complaint by Aravind with the Triplicane police arrested the three persons and seized the motorcycle.
