The Major Irrigation Minister, K. Srihari, told the Assembly during today in reply to a question tabled by G. Jaipal Yadav, Telugu Desam, that tenders would be called for execution of works and agreements signed in two months. The modified project, he said, would cost Rs 1,766 crores for utilising 25 tmcft and it would cover 2.5 lakh acres in 15 mandals of Mahabubnagar district. The project obtained all necessary clearances.
Salaries to aided lecturers
The Higher Education Minister, Mohd N. Farooq, announced in the House that salary arrears due to lecturers working in private aided junior colleges would be paid before March. The payments would include all arrears, including those due under the Pay Revision Commission. The Minister, replying to a short-notice question posed by B. Venkateswara Rao, Congress, denied that salaries were not paid in the past so many months and said they were cleared up to November. They were due only for December and January, he said.
Hill resort facilities
The Tourism Minister, T. Srinivasa Yadav, disclosed that the new facilities taken up at Araku Hill Resort would be thrown open to the public from March. He told Kolla Appala Naidu, Telugu Desam, that the facilities at Araku included a 40-room restaurant, swimming pool, fitness centre and conference halls. would be ready by June.
