Gujarat
By Manas Dasgupta
Strong winds that accompanied heavy rain uprooted hundreds of trees and brought traffic on many roads and highways to a halt. Though the number of houses that collapsed was not known, at least 19 persons were injured either in building collapses or were caught under the falling trees. Police personnel, who went to help the affected people in Goletar village, were stoned by the local residents. The police resorted to a mild lathicharge to dispel them, the spokesman said. The authorities could not explain the cause of the cloudburst.
