Minister to open Panchayat Day celebrations

MALAPPURAM FEB.18. The Minister for Local Administration, Cherkalam Abdulla, will inaugurate the State-level Panchayat Day celebrations at the GMUP School at Kondotty, near here, on February 19. Korambayil Ahmed Haji, MP, will deliver the keynote address. K.N.A. Khader, MLA, will preside.

The Kerala Panchayat Association State President, P. Khaleed Master, among others will participate in the deliberations.

The presidents and secretaries of the 991 grama panchayats, 152 block panchayats and 14 District Panchayats in the State will participate.

The programmes on the agenda include a seminar on Kerala development project, to be inaugurated by Kutty Ahmed Kutty, MLA. C.P.John, member of the Planning Board, the Financial Department (Planning) Secretary, S.M. Vijayanand, and the Local Administration Secretary, P. Kamalkutty, will take part in the programme.

The valedictory session will be inaugurated by the Public Works Minister, M.K. Muneer. The `swaraj trophy' for the model grama, district panchayats for 2000-2001, will be distributed by Mr.Cherkalam. E.Ahmed, MP, will be the chief guest. The MLAs, M.P. Gangadharan, E.T. Mohammed Basheer and P.K.Abdu Rabh, will be present.
