The acting Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, Motilal Naik, administered the oath of office to the 77-year-old former Chief Minister of Punjab and Union Minister at a simple ceremony at Raj Bhavan here. The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, his Cabinet colleagues, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, K. Prathibha Bharati, leaders of political parties, officials and non-officials attended. Surjit Kaur Barnala, ex-MLA, and Gaganjit Singh Barnala, MLA, Punjab, wife and son of Mr. Barnala, were present as also a sizeable number of Sikhs. Mr. Barnala joined the Council of Ministers for a photograph. He left for New Delhi in the evening and is slated to return on January 14. Earlier, the outgoing Governor, C. Rangarajan, and his wife, Haripriya, were given an affectionate farewell at the airport here. Mr. Barnala was accorded a warm reception on arrival this morning. The Chief Minister and others were present.
