Train accident: six victims from Hyderabad

HYDERABAD JAN. 3. Five members of a city-based family, including an 18-month-old girl, and a retired employee of the HMWS&SB were among those who were killed in the Manmad Express train mishap at Ghatnandur in Maharashtra in the early hours of Thursday.

The Deputy General Manager of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), L. Venkateshwara Rao (55), and his family members were on a pilgrimage to Shirdi.

Mr. Rao, his wife, Padmavathi (50), daughter, Pavanilata, son-in-law, Venkataramana, and grand-daughter died in the mishap as their airconditioned coach telescoped into general coaches. The family resides in Nagole near Uppal.

Mr. Rao's daughter and son-in-law had come from the United States on a short vacation on December 29 along with their daughter.

The retired employee, Dattatreya Rao Waghmare (60), who was also killed, was returning to Aurungabad after collecting his pension here.

On coming to know about the accident, Venkataramana's father left for the accident site in the special train arranged by the railway authorities.

Mr. Dattatreya came to the city on December 29, collected his pension and was seen off by his younger son, Ravinder, who lives in Saraswathinagar of Old City.
