College managements' demand unfair: CM

By Our Staff Reporter

KOTTAYAM JAN. 3. The Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, today asked the self-financing professional college managements to be sensitive to the unique socio-political realities existing in Kerala society.

Speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of the Mangalam College of Engineering at Ettumanur, he pointed out that any action which would upset the delicate social balance in society would have far-reaching consequences for all.

The Chief Minister's remarks came when he was referring to the demand from `certain (minority) managements' who wanted 100 per cent of the seats for themselves against the backdrop of the recent Supreme Court verdict on the issue. ``It's unfair,'' he said referring to the managements' demand and pointed out that they had agreed to the stipulation of the State Government for 50 per cent management seats and 50 per cent general seats, while availing their no-objection certificate.

The Union Minister of State for Urban Development, O. Rajagopal, said the State could soon emerge as a global destination for higher and professional education with the facilities available in the State.
