Auto strike deferred

HYDERABAD Dec. 30. The Auto-rickshaw Drivers Joint Action Committed has deferred its proposed strike from January 1, 2003, following an assurance from the Transport Department officials that they would not insist on replacement of the existing mechanical fare metres with electronic digital metres.

The committee's convener, Mohd. Amanullah Khan, in a press release, stated that the officials also agreed to extend the deadline for recalibration of the metres as per the new fares from this December 31 to January 15, 2003.
