BJP president meets Goh

SINGAPORE Dec. 30. The visiting president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Venkaiah Naidu, today called on the Singapore Prime Minister, Goh Chok Tong. It was a courtesy call, and the two leaders apprised each other of the organisational structure as also operational dynamics of the BJP in the Indian context and the People's Action Party in Singapore's distinctive milieu.

India's Deputy High Commissioner to Singapore, Ravi Bangar, was present during the informal conversation.

Mr. Naidu, who participated in the valedictory function of the fifth `World Telugu Federation conference' here, briefed Mr. Goh on the significance of the ethnic-cultural event, the first of its kind to be held outside India. Singapore's Trade and Industry Minister, George Yeo, and the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, had participated in the inaugural session of the conference.

The BJP president told Mr. Goh of India's concerns regarding terrorism.

While briefing the Prime Minister about the current Indian political situation, Mr. Naidu is understood to have generally steered clear of Gujarat.
