Take action against VHP: Cong.

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI DEC. 30. The Congress today called on the Government to take note of the recent statements made by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and take strict action against it. "The Government, specially the Home Ministry, has a Constitutional obligation to act against those spreading hate, dividing the country and weakening its unity," the party spokesperson Anand Sharma said.

He charged the VHP with unleashing a sustained and vitriolic campaign on the directions of those who did not want to see the country united and strong.

He said the VHP obtained funds from "dubious sources" abroad and demanded that the investigative agencies should force the VHP to make public details of its financial transactions.

He challenged the VHP claims to be the sole representatives of Hindus.

"They are misusing Hindu culture and its name, they do not represent the Hindus," he added.
