Largest power generating unit commissioned

SHIMLA DEC. 30. The country's largest — 250 MW — power generating unit for the 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri power project was successfully commissioned for trial runs today, according to a project spokesman.

In a statement, he said that the project had six such units with an aggregate capacity to produce 1500 MW of power, scheduled to be commissioned during 2003.

The trial run lasted an hour. Commercial generation of the project will start in March 2003.
