The Minister said this would be started in select wards of each municipality and would gradually be spread to other areas, replacing the existing system of clearing of the streets in the mornings. Men would be employed for the job. Shops and other business establishments would be asked to leave their waste in dust binds kept by the municipalities before closing the shops. These would be removed by the night-time cleaners. Mr. Abdulla said the Government had received some proposals for establishment of projects for solid waste disposal from private parties. These would be considered by the Cabinet shortly. An action plan was being drawn up to replace inefficient systems used now for clearing solid wastes including plastics. He said night-time sweeping was initially proposed to be introduced in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kochi, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kasaragod, Kanhangad, Kannur, Vadakara, Koyilandy, Kalpetta, Tirur, Malappuram, Palakkad, Angamaly, Aluva, Kalamassery, Perumbavoor, Thripunithura, North Paravoor, Muvattupuzha, Thodupuzha, Alappuzha, Kayamkulam, Pala, Kottayam, Changanassery, Thiruvalla, Pathanamthitta, Varkala and Attingal.
