By Our Special Correspondent
In a statement released here today, he said the sharp increase in cross-border terrorism today "is directly related to the illegal release from prison, on December 30, 1999, from judicial custody, of three dangerous terrorists during the IA hijack episode in Kandahar. At that time, India's National Security Adviser, Mr. Brajesh Mishra, had described the most dangerous of them all, Maulana Azhar (now head of the Jaish-e-Mohammed), as a `harmless cleric'. Azhar now has claimed responsibility for the nearly 1500 killed in Kashmir since then". Dr. Swamy called upon Mr. Advani to first apologise to the nation for "his abject abetment of the illegal release of those three dangerous terrorists before blaming Pakistan".
