This Day That Age
A South African ichthyologist (expert in fishes) Dr. J.L.B. Smith said in a radio message received in Johannesburg on the 29th that preliminary examination of a rare fish caught off a remote island west of Madagascar showed it to be a genuine Coelacanth. Previously it was thought to have been extinct for 50 million years. Dr. Smith said he was elated with the result of his mission enabled by Government, with Premier Dr. Malan letting him fly in a Government Dakota to the Comorra Islands to examine the catch.
