Sasikiran, Hari Krishna settle for draw

Hastings Dec. 30. Top-seeded Grandmaster Krishnan Sasikiran of India settled for an easy draw with compatriot GM Pentyala Hari Krishna in the second round of the premier event of the Hastings International Chess Congress here today.

The second day of the event witnessed three decisive games out of five and GM Keith Arkell of England and World women's championship finalist Alexandra Kosteniuk of Russia joined Danish GM Peter Heine Nielsen at the top of the table with 1.5 points each.

The leaders are followed by Sasikiran, Hari Krishna, world's youngest ever GM Sergey Karjakin of Ukraine and GM Alexei Barsov of Uzbekistan with one point each.

The hero of the day was 12-year-old Karjakin who outsmarted GM Glenn Flear of England in a theoretically drawn endgame.

The results (second round): Keith Arell (Eng, 1.5) bt Luke McShane (Eng, 0.5); Alexei Barsov (Uzb, 1) drew with Peter Heine Nielsen (Den, 1.5); V. Tseshkovsky (Rus, 0.5) lost to Alexandra Kosteniuk (Rus, 1.5); P. Hari Krishna (1) drew with K. Sasikiran (1); Sergei Karjakin (Ukr, 1) bt Glenn Flear (Eng, 1).
