Nothing wrong

Sir, — There has been a hue and cry over the Rajasthan Governor, Anshuman Singh, organising a "Ram katha" and the President has been petitioned to dismiss him for this "blatantly communal" act. Every year, Governors and Chief Ministers host or participate in Iftaar parties. Are these secular acts? If they are so, in the eyes of secularists, what is wrong in the Governor singing the praise of Lord Rama in public in his personal capacity? Does the Constitution stipulate that the Governor should not practise his own personal religion? This sort of over-playing the concept of secularism adds fuel to the Hindutva propaganda.

A. Kalyanaraman,

Chennai
