TRS bandh partial

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD Dec. 27. The bandh call given by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) evoked partial response in the city on Friday. It was, however, marked by some violent incidents in which an RTC bus was set on fire and windowpanes of another six were broken. A driver of the Barkatpura depot was injured.

The Kulsumpura police arrested two TRS activists -- B. Prakash and K. Sridhar -- who allegedly hurled stones on a bus near 2J bus stop, causing injury to the driver, M. Seenaiah. Four others involved in the incident fled the scene. As many as 153 persons were taken into preventive custody and later let off on personal bond, the Joint Commissioner of Police, A.K. Khan, said.

A group of TRS volunteers set ablaze a bus belonging to the Hayathnagar depot at Boudhanagar crossroads in Chilakalguda police station limits.

Some computers and glasses in the office of Sri Chaitanya Junior College at Tarnaka were damaged when a mob pelted stones. Seven cases of arson were reported. Seventeen accused were identified in five cases.

The Ranga Reddy district police took 411 persons under preventive custody at various places during the bandh. A total of 16 RTC buses were damaged and tyres of 16 buses were deflated.
