Abhijit Gupta, Sai Krishna lead in boys' sections

KOLKATA DEC. 27. Top seeded Abhijit Gupta continued his winning streak to gain the sole lead after the fifth round in the boys' under-13 category as the XVI National children's chess championships resumed here at the Salt Lake Stadium on Friday.

Gupta, appearing to continue his form that won him the National juniors' title recently, won the top board duel against the other overnight leader, fourth seeded Akshat Kamparia, to establish himself as the lone player with full five points.

Soumitra Majumdar, Namra H. Pandya and Saurav Chakraborty won their respective games to share the second spot, half a point behind the leader. A total of 14 players shared the third spot with four points each.

The boys' under-11 section too had single leader with S. Sai Krishna moving to the top after winning against Subhabrata Das in the second board.

Third seeded N. Raghavi shot into the lead in the girls' under-13 category maintaining an all-win record to have half a point lead over the top seed and favourite Mary Ann Gomes, who remained in the second spot with 4.5 points.

The girls' under-11 section saw N. Pragna Patavi leading the field with five points, while Jayashree P.K. remained close behind with 4.5 points.
