Constable's honesty to the fore

Pondicherry Dec. 27. A traffic constable handed over a handbag containing gold jewellery and cash to its owner.

R. Vengadesh, who was on duty on December 24 on the busy Mission Street, found the bag on the road, and immediately tried to locate its owner through the department. Mohammed Jaffer of Kottakuppam village had missed the bag while on his trip to Pondicherry, and he reported to the Grand Bazaar police.

The traffic police authorities contacted Mr. Jaffer and returned the bag.

The Superintendent of Police in charge of Traffic, K.S. Ramalingam, and two other officials, Sundaramoorthy and Gurumoorthy coordinated the efforts with Mr. Vengadesh for identifying the owner.The Senior Superintendent of Police, Anand Mohan, awarded Mr. Vengadesh and also gave him a certificate of appreciation.
