`Double standards' of BJD condemned

By Our Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR DEC. 27. The Bharatiya Janata Party national secretary and party legislator in Orissa, Dharmendra Pradhan, today condemned the "double standards'' of the Biju Janata Dal saying that it was opportunistic and hypocritical on the part of some senior BJD leaders to now describe BJP as communal. Reacting to the remarks made by some BJD leaders at the party's foundation day meeting on Thursday that BJP was a communal party and its growth be stalled in the State, Mr. Pradhan said that the criticism was only meant for public consumption.

``Obviously, the BJP's landslide victory in Gujarat and party leadership's rising popularity have triggered both envy and sense of insecurity among the self- seeking politicians. That is why they are now trying to pull down BJP, even as they continue to be dependant on us for their political convenience.''
