Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, she said Thursday's incidents at the Coimbatore Central Prison were the result of police highhandedness. She said the practice she had followed during the past four and a half years was to leave her mobile phone with the police after taking out the SIM card. Thursday's problems began with the police refusing to keep the mobile phone with them and asking her to hand it over to someone else. As she refused, she was denied permission to go inside. But after consulting the Maudany, who was meeting three PDP workers, she left her mobile phone and those belonged to her relatives with the three party workers. But, according to her, the police seized the phones from the three PDP workers, framing charges. Her younger son was injured in the commotion when the Tamil Nadu police tried to arrest her within the prison compound. Nandini, lawyer who accompanied her, said a private petition would be filed in case the complaint given by the Maudany's wife on Thursday was not taken up. She said they would approach the Human Rights Commission and the Women's Commission, since the issues involved violation of human rights and questioning of women's dignity. Since the child was injured on the prison premises, violation of child rights was also involved.
