Folk music exponent dead

GUWAHATI Dec. 27. Pratima Barua Pandey, folk music exponent, died here today after a protracted illness. She was 68, and is survived by her husband and two daughters.

She was the recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi award in 1989 and the Padmashree award in 1991. Born in the royal family of Gauripur in southern Assam, Ms. Pratima was the niece of the late Pramathesh Barua, who shot into fame in the 1930s as the director of the film "Devadas''.
