Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Staff Reporter
Syndicate member, Koliakode Krishnan Nair, whose continuance in the post of the convener of the Finance Standing Committee had come under a cloud following his suspension from the CPI(M) for alleged dealings with the illicit liquor lobby, will now head the standing committee on affiliations. Till now, this committee was headed by Syndicate member, Rani Nair. The report of the two-member committee that investigated the allegations of misuse of official machinery for private purposes by the former Registrar, G. Sidhardhan, that was tabled during the Syndicate meeting on December 9 was discussed today also. Even though the report has stated that Dr. Sidhardhan cannot be found guilty on any of the charges raised against him, the Syndicate did not reach a consensus on his reinstatement. Dr.Sidhardhan will retire in January 2003. The Syndicate today decided to award doctorates to Anu Cherian (Home Science), S. Shreethi (Psychology), P.S. Geethakumari (Sanskrit), N. S. Lakshmi (Music), Mary Stella (Physics), S. Sheefa (Malayalam), T. P. Rajan and S. Ushakumari (Engineering), A. Venkiteswaran (Demography), C. Chandra and to S. Kumar (Tamil).
