``There was no other way out for them. Frustrated at their repeated representations falling on deaf ears and fuelled by the gross negligence of the authorities, the frustrated commoners took to occupying Government land,'' the party district secretary, P. Srinivasulu Naidu said in a statement here today. He planted a board containing the list of "beneficiaries'' at the site located at survey no. 181-200. Hailing the "bold move'' of the oppressed sections who refused to be cowed down by the "fear tactics'' of vested interests, he said the landless people had staged a series of demonstrations, dharnas and indefinite hunger strike at the village, mandal and Collectorate levels for close to three months from September onwards, but to no avail. The party's district unit associate secretary, Ch. Dasarath, said "the onus was now on the people themselves to safeguard their land.'' The Malkajgiri mandal secretary of CPI, V. Murali Goud, spoke.
