Khatami in Pak.

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD Dec. 23. The Iranian President, Seyed Mohammad Khatami, arrived here today to a red carpet welcome. It is the first visit by any Iranian head of state in ten years. Diplomatic and political observers are watching the outcome of the talks between him and the Pakistani establishment keenly.

Islamabad has been emphasising on the potential of the visit to strengthen the economic ties between the two sides but the focus of Teheran appears to be the situation in the region. And while India would be the major area of concern for Pakistan, it is Afghanistan that engages Iran's attention.
